McIlroy and Woods, nominees for PGA Player of the Year

Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, world number one, and American Tiger Woods are among the five golfers nominated Monday for “Player of the Year” on the PGA Tour, to be voted on by their peers.

McIlroy is the clear favorite after leading the Tour with four victories, including the PGA Championship.

He also won the Vardon Trophy and the U.S. and European money title, joining Luke Donald as the only players to top the winnings list in Europe and the United States.

Meanwhile, the American Woods, former number one in the ranking, captured three titles in the US PGA Tour this year.

Also on the list are fellow countrymen Brandt Snedeker, FedEx Cup champion, Masters champion Bubba Watson and Jason Dufner.

The five candidates for rookie of the year are John Huh, Sweden’s Jonas Blixt, Charlie Beljan, Ted Potter Jr. and Bud Cauley.

Those eligible are PGA Tour players who have played at least 15 tournaments in 2012. Results will be announced in early December.
