McIlroy wins with 21 under par at the Wells Fargo Championship

Rory McIlroy has won his second Wells Fargo Chammionship on the PGA Tour, and has done so with clear authority, with a total of 21 under par and after Saturday’s course-record 61-stroke round.

The world’s number one golfer took a seven-stroke lead over runners-up Webb Simpson and Patrick Rodgers on the Quail Hollow course in North Carolina.

The Northern Irish player had won two weeks earlier the Match Play Championship in San Francisco and accumulates eleven victories in the American Tour, the first of which was in 2010 precisely in Quail Hollow, with 15 under par.

Phil Mickelson described McIlroy’s performance this week as “impressive”.

McIlroy shared a bit of his luxurious lifestyle with his followers as he celebrated victory aboard his private jet on his journey from North Carolina to London. He did so thanks to an app, Periscope, which streams live video via cell phone. The world number one, who was accompanied by his caddie and several friends, answered questions from his fans from 30,000 feet in the air.
