Nelly Korda wins first major of the year and makes it five trophies in a row

American Nelly Korda demonstrated her extraordinary sporting momentum by winning the Chevron Championship on Sunday, the first Grand Slam tournament of the season, and stringing together five consecutive trophies on the LPGA Tour.
The daughter of former Czech tennis player Petr Korda thus equaled the record of consecutive U.S. tour trophies, which she now shares with her compatriot Nancy Lopez (1978) and Sweden’s Annika Sorenstam (2004-05).
Korda, ranked number one in the world, won the Chevron Championship at The Woodlands (Texas) with a cumulative score of 275 strokes (13 under par) and a two-stroke lead over Sweden’s Maja Stark.
At the age of 25, the golfer from Brandenton (Florida) celebrated her second major and the thirteenth title in her career, which also includes the Olympic gold medal won at the Tokyo Games in 2021.
Thanks to this triumph, Korda pocketed 1,200,000 dollars.
It is worth mentioning the performance of Carlota Ciganda from Navarre, who finished sixth, five strokes behind the champion. The other Spanish participant in the tournament, the first Grand Slam of the season, Azahara Muñoz, from Malaga, could not make the cut.
