The General Assembly of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation, meeting in extraordinary session, unanimously approved last Friday the re-election of Pablo Mansilla García from Málaga as president of the entity. This morning, the Electoral Commission -in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Regulations of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation and the Order of 11 March 2016 regulating the electoral processes of the Andalusian Sports Federations- has published the minutes in which he is definitively proclaimed president.
Pablo Mansilla thus has another four years ahead of him at the helm of the entity, which he has chaired since December 2016. An economist and account auditor by profession, he is passionate about the sport of golf and, in particular, its Rules, focusing on refereeing and tournament management.
Precisely in 2016, he was chosen by the International Golf Federation to ensure compliance with the Rules of Golf at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, having the privilege of acting as referee in the men’s competition, in an edition in which golf returned to be an Olympic sport after more than a century.
During his first four years of presidency, special importance has been given to the promotion of the sport of golf and the growth of players, working to make the Federation feel as an increasingly closer entity, facilitating access to golf to those who do not know it, and making it easier and simpler for those who practice it.
In this sense, the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation closed the past year 2019 as the Autonomous Community with the highest growth in golf licenses in the national territory, supported by the development of promotional activities aimed at specific groups, golf cameras in schools or “Friends Cup”, among other actions.
In addition to the sporting successes of Andalusian golfers and the holding of more than 150 federative competitions each year, Andalusia is a benchmark in terms of support for youth golf and grassroots sport, with the development, among other actions, of the ‘Golf Joven’ program, through which more than fifty golf courses offer special prices for children, families and young people to enjoy the sport with the best facilities.
In terms of major events, and thanks to the continuous and close collaboration with the different institutions, Andalusia is an unbeatable venue for major competitions, such as the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters or the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España Femenino, as well as Challenge Tour, Alps Tour and Santander Tour events. All of them allow to show the Andalusian golf destination abroad, supporting the tourism industry, and creating references that bring the sport of golf to those who still see it as something distant.
Another four years of work in favor of Andalusian and Spanish sport lie ahead.
