Pablo Mansilla, unanimously elected President of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation

Economist and account auditor by profession, and golf referee and tournament director by devotion. At the age of 45, Pablo Mansilla, from Malaga, has been elected president of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation, a position he will hold for the next four years.

His candidacy was the only one that had been presented to the Presidency of the federation, and yesterday the General Assembly – meeting in an extraordinary session, with 35 members present out of the total of 39 members – showed its support by unanimously endorsing him.

Pablo Mansilla took his first steps in the world of golf on the nine holes of the Real Club El Candado in Malaga, when he was only 13 years old. Today, he is a handicap 5 and passionate about the rules of golf, a hobby that led him to sit and pass the exam for Regional Referee by the Andalusian federation  in 2006. The following year he was already a National Referee and, in 2013, he was appointed International Judge Referee.

This year, the now President of the Andalusian Federation, was chosen by the International Golf Federation to ensure compliance with the Rules of Golf at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, acting as a referee in the men’s competition in an edition in which golf was once again an Olympic sport after more than a hundred years. An experience that, on his return from Brazil, he described as “a dream difficult to repeat”.

As for his relationship with the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation, during the last few years he has been a member of its Board of Directors, combining his activity as Sports Director with the presidency of the Professional and Pitch & Putt Committees. He has also been a member of the Rules and Sports Discipline Committee.

Yesterday during his speech to the General Assembly of the federative body, Pablo Mansilla explained the challenges that the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation will face during the next four years, highlighting among them the promotion of golf and the growth of players -through programs such as golf in schools-, the implementation of the new Sports Law of Andalusia and the greater participation of clubs, sports sections and players in the federative activities.

In addition, he wanted to thank  to Angel de la Riva and all the members of his Board of Directors for their service and work in favor of Andalusian and Spanish golf. To conclude, Pablo Mansilla asked the members of the General Assembly for their collaboration for the next four years, adding that “I cannot promise that I will meet your expectations, but I can promise you that I will do my best”.

The General Assembly of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation is made up of a total of 39 members: 15 representatives of the Clubs and Sports Associations, 13 representatives of the Athletes, 5 representatives of the Coaches and 6 representatives of the Judges and Referees.

After the endorsement received by the members of the General Assembly, the Electoral Commission of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation will publish tomorrow the provisional results. Once the possible challenges to yesterday’s votes have been resolved, on Friday, December 30, the General Directorate of Activities and Promotion of Sport will definitively proclaim Pablo Mansilla as the new President of the entity.
