Marcos Pastor has won the last regular event of the season of The Gecko Pro Tour held this week in Añoreta and Baviera. The golfer from Cordoba has signed a total of 204 strokes, with a spectacular final round of 67, the best round of the day in Añoreta along with the Dutch Maarten Lafeber.Pastor has been imposed with a resounding victory, managing the times and controlling the situation very well from the first minute. So much so that the runners-up, Jordi García del Moral and Manuel Quirós, finished five strokes behind, while Lafeber finished in fourth position at six.
“I played very well throughout the week and I am very proud of how I have faced the last holes, when I had the advantage. On the 15th I hit a good tee shot and a great bunker shot for birdie. On the 16th, which is a par 5, I didn’t even think about it, I grabbed the 3-iron off the tee, then a 6-iron and a wedge to look for the birdie from three on the green without jeopardizing a higher score. It’s not easy to control the desire to hit the drive on a par 5 and try to get a two-putt, but after so many setbacks it seems that one is learning”, says the Andalusian golfer with his usual sense of humor.
Pastor has been quick and accurate in his annual appointment with the victory at the Gecko. This is the third consecutive season he has won. “I’ve been there several times on the last day, but for one reason or another, even without doing too badly, I didn’t win this year. One more check for the wall of my room, the third. Let’s see if we manage not to leave a single gap,” he says with a smile from ear to ear.Beyond Pastor’s triumph, the Baviera and Añoreta meeting has meant a substantial change in the order of merit of the Gecko. Carlos Rodiles, who missed the cut, has lost the first position to Jordi García del Moral, second this week.
The Castellón golfer has also taken a considerable lead considering that only the final is left to finish the season. García del Moral has more than six thousand points over Rodiles. From there on, maximum equality. No less than four players are at less than two thousand points: Rodiles, Gabriel Cañizares, Marcos Pastor and Anton Karlsson. This week’s tournament has also left us with the fabulous hole-in-one yesterday by José Lorca from Granada, holing a 6-iron on the 9th hole of Añoreta. It is the tenth of his career. In addition, the good performance of Maarten Lafeber, a classic of the European Tour who has a victory on his record, stands out. Precisely, with Lafeber played the first day the winner. “It’s a pleasure to play with such a high quality golfer. It shows in everything, in the seriousness of the game, in the pace of competition… You always learn things,” he explained.
