Preysler triumphs again at the Spanish Senior Championship

The Andalusian Miguel Preysler has brilliantly won the Spanish Senior Men’s Individual Championship at La Peñaza Golf Course (Zaragoza), emulating the victories he already achieved in the 2005, 2006 and 2007 editions. With this victory he has completed a triumphant week, since on Thursday he won the Doubles with Enrique de Bernardo.

Miguel Preysler was the leader from the first to the last day of play, demonstrating that his best golf, the one that made him European champion, is back. With a first round of 72 strokes and a second of 71 he was in a clear advantage for the final round, in which with a 75 he could barely contain the push of Alicio Rodriguez, who squeezed with a 72. Finally, the player from Sotogrande won by a single stroke.

Third place went to Julián García-Mayoral, co-leader with Preysler on the first day. Only two strokes separated him from the winner. And fourth was Eduardo de la Riva who, although he was unable to defend his title, played at a high level once again.

Miguel Preysler and Julián García-Mayoral were the first leaders with a card of 72 strokes, par. Both players led the classification with a one-stroke lead over Alfonso Montojo and Alicio Rodríguez, while Juan Carlos Elósegui, with 74 strokes, Gustavo Larrazábal and Ángel Macías with 75, and Eduardo de la Riva himself, with 76, were also close behind.

On the second day, Miguel Preysler was the sole leader with a card of 71 strokes. Three strokes behind him was Julián García-Mayoral with a 74, while in third place was Alicio Rodríguez, who scored 74.

Eduardo de la Riva, defending champion

In the 2014 edition, Eduardo de la Riva won with enormous authority -ten strokes ahead of the second, Enrique de Bernardo-, thus extending a spectacular record that has made him one of the best amateur players in the history of Spanish golf.

The Spanish Individual Championship is the fourth and last scoring event for the 2015 National Senior Men’s Ranking. Previously, the International of Spain Senior Men’s Championship, held in the Valencian course of Oliva Nova GC in mid-February with two foreign victories, the Font del Llop scoring event, in which Miguel Preysler won, and the Valdeluz event, in which the winner was Francisco Maestro, were played.

Preysler and De Bernardo took the Dobles

On the two days immediately prior to the start of the individual tournament and on the same stage, the Spanish Senior Men’s Doubles Championship was played, in which the couple formed by Miguel Preysler and Enrique de Bernardo won with a portentous performance on the first day (67) and another remarkable one (71) on the second day.

Second place, six strokes behind the champions, went to Hyun Chul Oh Kwak and Norberto Rodríguez (144, par), while third place went to José Riva and Vicente Dasi (145, +1).
