“MY PRIORITY IN GROWING PARTNERS AND IMPROVING SERVICES”.
The new director of Aloha Golf began his professional life at a very young age. When he was just 24 years old, he began working in banking, where he acquired extensive training through various positions of responsibility and different entities. In 2002 he decided to make a change in his life and it was then that he was approached about the possibility of joining the Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande as a director. “This,” he says, “came to me in an unexpected way but at the right time for me.” He remained there from 2003 to 2011.
“It was a very enriching experience,” says Rafael, “in a great club where I think we did a good job modernizing the management, infrastructure and organizing everything a bit.
“After eight years it was time for a change and again I was offered to join banking, to Banif (Santander’s private bank) where I spent two years trying to do investment business, and although we did something, as everyone knows, things are very bad, and it wasn’t enough to be able to continue”
“So,” he continues, “when the opportunity arose to aspire to be the director of Aloha, which is a club that has always been a reference for me and to which I have been immensely fond of since I was a child, I didn’t think twice and presented my candidacy”.
After a four-month pre-selection process, he was chosen by the club.
-What are your most immediate objectives?
-The main one is to contribute to continue to grow in membership and improve services, as the board of directors suggested to me from the beginning.
-Because there is nothing to do in the field, it is in very good condition, isn’t it?
The course is fantastic. The work being done by Ángel Chacón’s team (greenkeeper) is outstanding. The thing is that golf courses, as the living entities they are, always need updating, updating, etc. We have to make small ornamental and aesthetic improvements, a little manicure, and that is what we are doing. This course is a unique design and in perfect condition.
The clubhouse has undergone an in-depth renovation, but there are still some things left…
. The renovation has been impressive, but there are still things to be done, as always. There are parts that we have to update, allocate some spaces, and most importantly, get into the parking lot in the immediate future. We are going to add another floor to it. We are also going to totally refurbish the “chiringuito” on the 9th hole, and we have in mind to add some more services, such as a golf-oriented gym.
-Another goal could be the recovery of a Tour tournament?
-That is something we always keep in mind. If there is a possibility of doing it in the future, we will study it with all the love in the world.
Because both the members and the board of directors of Aloha are very proud to have hosted the Andalusian Open in 2007, 2008 and 2012.
