Raquel Carriedo, champion of the Banesto Tour Finals

Raquel Carriedo has been proclaimed champion of the Banesto Tour Final, held in Villaitana Wellness Golf & Business Resort, in Benidorm, getting, in addition, the place of honor of the Banesto Tour ranking thanks to a solid season in which she has added several Top Ten and a title. Adriana Zwnck was second, one stroke behind the champion, and Sweden’s Isabella Ramsay consolidated her first place in the West Tour ranking.

Raquel Carriedo signed a third round of 69 strokes to win with 205, 11 under par, one ahead of Adriana Zwanck, who also delivered a third card of 69. Welsh Rhian Wyn Thomas, Ana Larrañeta and French Celine Palomar shared third place with 209, minus 7; Carmen Alonso was fourth with 211; Swedish Isabella Ramsay and Dutch Marjet van Der Graaff finished tied for seventh with 212; French Melodie Bourdy was solo ninth with 213 strokes; and tenth place was shared by María Beautell, Marina Arruti and Laura Cabanillas.

Carriedo has obtained the heel and the trophy that accredits her as champion of the Banesto Tour Final, and has also taken to Zaragoza the coveted 5J Osborne Ham, award for the best Spanish player. For Sara Beautell from Tenerife, who has been forced to withdraw due to a sprain she suffered yesterday in her left hand and who, just like Raquel, had been aiming for the number one ranking with a solid season, there has been another Osborne 5J as a consolation prize. The Yo Dona prize, consisting of a stay at the Hotel Real in Santander, went to Celine Palomar who left the ball 1.20 meters from the flag with her second shot on the 17th hole.

Raquel CarriedoI dedicate this double triumph to Pepe, my husband, who has suffered with me and who did a magnificent job as caddie the day it rained so much, taking care of me and the clubs. Also to my children, who miss me a lot when I compete and for them it is hard for me to travel and leave home. I’m delighted and really enjoying the Banesto Tour, which has given me back the competition bug. It has been a great year, except in Sancti Petri, which I did not play well, I have always been close to winning and I was missing the icing on the cake, which today I have achieved twice”.

Adriana Zwanck: “I knew that Raquel was a very experienced player and that it was going to be very difficult to beat her. I didn’t feel like a winner at any moment, but I knew I was playing very well and very consistent, and I kept fighting all the time feeling very comfortable. This tournament has given me a lot of confidence, I came from a not very good streak and I’m leaving with a lot of energy”.

Isabella Ramsay: “I have had a great year and played very well. I feel very proud to make history by being the first number one ranked player on the West Tour. We are all delighted with the Banesto Tour because it allows us to play seven more weeks, and to be able to compete at the beginning and end of the season, which is impossible in Sweden”.
