Rory wins his fourth victory of the year in Shanghai

This time the luck was in his favor and he managed to win the tiebreaker. It was the second time he won a playoff out of the six he has played in his career. Rory McIlroy won the HSBC Champions in Shanghai on the first playoff hole by defeating the American Xander Schauffele.
On the last hole, the Northern Irish player left the ball eight meters from the flag for a two-putt birdie. The victory brought him closer to leader Brooks Koepka in the world rankings.
Schauffele, who birdied the 18th hole to force the playoff, had to hit from the rough near a bunker and his shot from 4 meters for birdie was a few centimeters to the right of the hole.
McIlroy achieved in Shanghai his fourth victory of the year. It was his third win at the World Golf Championships and his first since the Match Play at Harding Park in 2015.
The Northern Irishman played bogey-free over the final 39 holes and closed with a round of 68, 4 under par. And he thought that was enough to win.
But Schauffele pressed the pace in his efforts to become the first winner of two HSBC Championship, with birdies on two of his last four holes for a round of 66 strokes, despite a week in which he was recovering from the flu.
