Santa María Golf begins its 25th anniversary celebrations

Marbella’s Santa María Golf Club has kicked off the events that, on the occasion of its 25th anniversary, will be held over the course of a year. The first was a splendid lunch that brought together prominent personalities from politics, golf, tourism and the business world at the club’s Hoyo 19 Restaurant.

The mayor of Marbella, José Bernal, the president of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation, Ángel de la Riva, the manager of Turismo Costa del Sol, Arturo Bernal, and major businessmen and real estate developers such as Ricardo Arranz, Cristóbal Peñarroya and the brothers Juan and Iñigo Orbaneja, among many others, attended the event.

The CEO of Santa Maria Golf, Ali Saudi, made an emotional memory of these twenty-five years of the club, emphasizing the great effort made by the investment partners in hard times and highlighting the fact that in this quarter of a century has accounted for a million outings to the course, with peaks of up to 50,000 monthly departures.

De la Riva, who was honored by the club for his long career in favor of Andalusian golf, had words of praise for the work that Santa María Golf has developed over the years and expressly mentioned Colin Mosely, one of those who promoted the construction of the course and director of the club for many years.

PRIVILEGED LOCATION

Nestled near one of the best beaches in Marbella, Santa Maria Golf enjoys a privileged location within a beautiful natural environment. Just eight minutes drive from the center of Marbella and a little more from the cosmopolitan Puerto Banus, and has easy access to the national road, links and international airports of Malaga and Gibraltar.   With only a short walk to the beach (the finest sand in all of Marbella) via the commercial center of Elviria, the location of Santa Maria Golf is unbeatable.

The clubhouse is an impressive two-story 19th century farmhouse surrounded by extensive gardens. Outdoor facilities include two tennis courts, two putting greens and practice nets.  Inside the main clubhouse are the administrative offices, a billiard room and a large lounge. Years ago a new restaurant, Hoyo 19, was built with splendid views of the course and a large pro-shop and caddy-masters area was created. Recently a major renovation of the pro-shop and changing rooms has been carried out.

As for the course at Santa Maria Golf and Country Club, the layout winds through a valley to ascend the mountain. Hole 7, a long par 3 of 180 meters, has elevated tees. It is followed by a dogleg par 5 with water on the right. The 11th starts on another elevated tee, borders a lake and ends on a green with a waterfall on the right. The course has a shorter and more complicated first nine holes, while the second nine holes are longer and more relaxing.
