Schauffele wins his second major of the year in Scotland

American Xander Schauffele won the British Open, the last major of the season, at Royal Troon (Scotland) on Sunday.
The 30-year-old Californian, reigning Olympic champion, thus achieved the second major of his career and of the year after his victory at the PGA Championship in Louisville (Kentucky) in May.
“Hearing my name followed by ‘Open winner’ is something I’ve dreamed of for a long time,” the winner declared.
Schauffele completed a flawless final day, finishing with a 65-stroke card, with 6 birdies and no bogeys (6 under par), for a total of 275 strokes (9 under par).
He was two strokes ahead of his compatriot Billy Horschel, in the lead after the first day, and the British Justin Rose.
World No. 1, fellow American Scottie Scheffler, was seventh with 283 strokes (-1), while the defending champion, another American, Brian Harman, was lost in anonymity, 60th (295, +11).

Also finished seventh Jon Rahm, who made the Spanish fans dream of a feat, almost a miracle, in the 152nd edition of the Open. The three birdies in his first three holes on Sunday left him just two strokes off the lead, but in the end the comeback was half-hearted. His seventh place was his best result in a major in 2024.
Among the big names who missed the cut on Friday were Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, world number two, and Tiger Woods.
