
There are only six months left for the 2023 Solheim Cup to be played from September 18 to 24 at Finca Cortesin, on the Costa del Sol, which will be the first time that this tournament comes to Spain. A round figure that has coincided with the inauguration in the town of Casares of a clock located in the Marcelino Camacho square that marks the countdown to the Solheim Cup 2023.
The event was attended by José Carrasco and Juan Luis Villalón, mayor and deputy mayor of Casares respectively; Vicente Rubio, general manager of Finca Cortesín; and Alicia Garrido, president of Deporte and Business, promoter and organizer of the Solheim Cup 2023.
The Casareño alderman welcomed and highlighted with his words “the magnificent opportunity that represents a tournament like the Solheim Cup to make known to the world the many tourist attractions of our town, in addition to Finca Cortesin, which is a first class tourist destination and generates a very important wealth to the area.
The general manager of the tournament’s host course recalled that “we are 183 days away from the event, and we are taking all the necessary steps to make the event a success”.
Alicia Garrido, did not hide the tremendous emotion that comes from seeing the achievement of a dream that “has been fought for years and for which we will continue to work until the last day”.
Finally, Juan Luis Villalón, deputy mayor of Casares, closed the event saying that “one of the great objectives of this next Solheim Cup is that all spectators visit our town. And that, in addition, the people of Casares, feel the Solheim Cup 2023 as something of theirs, a legacy that will remain in Malaga, Andalusia, and Spain”.
The celebration events will continue throughout the week
This event held in Casares will give continuity to the “Trophy Journey”, which, after traveling through most of the Spanish geography, this year will focus on the Costa del Sol and will visit countless courses in Marbella and Benahavís to gradually approach its final destination: Finca Cortesín.
In addition, another of the big events this week will be the Marca Sport Weekend, which will begin with an interesting match-play tournament at Finca Cortesín. Under the name “Road to Solheim Cup”, this event will bring together great golf fans such as Toni and Miguel Ángel Nadal, Inés Sastre, David Otero or Bernd Schuster, among others.

Six months, six facts
With 183 days to go until the tournament in which the best European players will face the most outstanding American golfers, it is also time to recapitulate what these previous months of preparations have been like with six facts that speak for themselves of the importance of the event.
To date, 72,400 tickets have been sold and spectators will come to the Costa del Sol from 29 different countries.
In the previous months, the Solheim Cup trophy has visited 83 golf courses in Spain and still has 16 clubs left before arriving at Finca Cortesín.
A total of 29,587 kilometers have been traveled on this “Trophy Journey”, which began in early 2022.
And 830 volunteers have already signed up to help with the various tasks that will be carried out throughout the week of the Solheim Cup.
