The number of federated golfers in Spain has settled above 305,000 -specifically 307,672- according to the data of the last official count carried out on May 1. This amount represents a decrease in the number of licenses of 19,233 with respect to the first of the year, once the processing of annual cancellations due to bank refunds in March, an action that is executed after a warning notification, which means that from this moment on the number of members will increase little by little as the year goes by. This has been the case since April, when the number of members amounted to 305,355, which means that the increase since then is 2,317 licenses.
In percentage terms, the decrease experienced in the January-May period represents a 5.9% decrease compared to the first of the year, figures that can be explained by the current economic crisis that affects all areas of Spanish society and that has been palpable in the Spanish golf world since 2010.
It should be noted that the Community of Madrid remains above 90,000 members, with a total of 90,614 at the beginning of May, while Andalusia, second in the Ranking of Territorial Federations, is above 47,500, distancing itself little by little from Catalonia, third in this list with just over 37,000 members.
At some distance behind are the Valencian Community, with more than 21,000 members; the Basque Country, with almost 20,000; and Castilla y León, with more than 16,500. Galicia and Asturias, with more than 11,500 and 10,000 licenses, respectively, join the group of Autonomous Communities with five-digit golf licenses.
