Successful start in Chaparral of the Mijas Sun & Golf Circuit

The magnificent Chaparral course has successfully launched the first edition of the Mijas Sun & Golf Circuit, which will consist of five rounds plus a final. The 84 places were filled well in advance and there was a waiting list.

The Circuit is born thanks to the support that the Mijas Town Hall has given to this initiative proposed by the Mijas Golf Courses Association, which also promotes the Town Hall’s own brand: MIJAS SUN & GOLF.

One of the great attractions of the Circuit is the invitation to play the final at the dean course of the Costa del Sol municipality: Mijas Golf Los Lagos, on Saturday August 24, with a fantastic closing in a gala dinner in the gardens of the Hotel La Zambra. Another great attraction is that in the final prizes are disputed vouchers to play for a whole year the courses of the Circuit, which apart from Chaparral and Mijas Golf are La Cala, La Noria, Cerrado del Aguila and Miraflores.

Another particularity of the Circuit is the support given to women’s golf, so that a special ladies’ category is established, giving access to the final to the two best classified in the special ladies’ category that are not in the general prizes. The same is done for the best players, establishing a special scratch prize.

In this way, nine players in each tournament are those who qualify for the grand final on Saturday, August 24. The Mijas Sun & Golf Circuit has as another hallmark the fact that the qualifying rounds are played on alternate Fridays during the summer months, becoming a very pleasant event and the best way to start a weekend.

The Chaparral tournament took place in splendid weather and the course was in excellent condition. The pace of play was very fluid, with the support of the marshals team. The organization makes special mention to Cecilia Löwenhielm and David Gordejo for their attention to all the details and their excellent work.

The event was supported by San Miguel beers, with prizes of beers on the 6 par 3’s of the closest ball course and unlimited beers at the cocktail party served before the awards ceremony.

The awards ceremony was attended by Francisco Jerez Gómez, Councillor for Tourism of the Mijas Town Hall. The ceremony was presented by the manager of El Chaparral and president of the Mijas Golf Courses Association, Domingo Gavira Esquivel.
