Andalusia will bring down the curtain of the Tour in Europe, for the second consecutive year, with the celebration of the Andalucía Valderrama Masters. It will be the last event of the international calendar to be played on the continent, from October 27 to 30 at the Club de Golf Valderrama, where players from the world’s Top 10 will take part. The tournament will distribute three million euros in prize money.
The Andalucía Valderrama Masters will once again have 96 participants, including some of the best in the world, who will return to one of their favorite venues, the Cadiz course of the Club de Golf Valderrama, famous for having hosted sixteen editions of the Volvo Masters, the first two of the American Express-World Golf Championship and the 97 Ryder Cup, which resulted in the victory of the European team led by Seve Ballesteros.
The Junta de Andalucía, owner of the rights and main sponsor of the tournament, has entrusted the organization and promotion of the Andalucía Valderrama Masters to Octagon, with the collaboration of GFC Golf and Business, companies specialized in sports marketing of recognized prestige in the field of sport in general and golf in particular.
The Ministry of Tourism, Trade and Sport of the Regional Government of Andalusia will take advantage of the celebration of the Andalucía Valderrama Masters to continue projecting the image of the community as a quality tourist destination, and at the same time host top-level sporting events; this year, the Andalusian region will host eleven events of different disciplines of enormous media impact, thanks to the quality of its participants: golf, tennis, cycling, cross country, sailing, hiking, triathlon, skiing, mountain biking and motorcycling.
Graeme McDowell was proclaimed champion of the inaugural edition of the Andalucía Valderrama Masters. The Northern Irishman completed a magnificent season by winning in the San Roque course, where he added his seventh triumph. A few months earlier he had won his first major -the US Open-, he had won the Welsh Open, and on the same stage he became the hero of the Ryder Cup by scoring the point that gave the victory to the European team. For McDowell, “winning at Valderrama, a mythical course and one of the best, was impressive, a marvel and a very special victory”.
