
Resounding success of the inaugural edition of the Andalusia Open of Pitch & Putt tournament that was held this weekend at the Costa del Sol’s course of Benalmádena Golf.
The competition was attended by fifty golfers who played under the rules established by the IPPA (International Pitch & Putt Association), including the mandatory use of a maximum of three clubs, including the putter, in the case of men, and five for women.
In the women’s category, Valentina Albertazzi took the lead after a first round of 52 strokes (-2).
On the second day, the junior player repeated the result and certified the victory with two strokes of income over the local golfer Natalia Gómez.
In this last round, it is worth mentioning the magnificent hole-in-one achieved by María Rodríguez on hole 8 of the Benalmadena course.
On the other hand, in the men’s category, there was a lot of excitement to find out the first winner of the tournament, a triumph that finally went to Casto Gómez, author of a stratospheric final round of -10(best card of the competition and Benalmádena Golf record), which allowed him to tie at 94 strokes (14 under par) with Leonardo Lilja, three-time Spanish Pitch & Putt champion, and beat him thanks to the difference in handicap.
As regards the handicap rankings, among the women, local player Bárbara Völkel (98 net strokes) beat Valeria Espinosa and Bárbara Martín by the minimum.
In the men’s classification, Juan Soler (96 strokes) was one stroke ahead of junior David George Schneider.
At the awards ceremony of this first edition of the Andalusian Pitch & Putt Open were present, among others, Antonio Fuentes, President of the Pitch & Putt Committee of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation; and Miguel Navarro, Benalmádena Golf Professional.
