The Andalusian Regional Government and the RFEG will promote Andalusian golf

The Ministry of Tourism and Commerce of the Andalusian Regional Government and the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, in collaboration with the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation, have signed an agreement to promote the sport of golf in Andalusia through a series of joint actions to be developed throughout 2013.

The objective of this agreement is to highlight the many high quality golfing options available in the Andalusian Autonomous Community for all Spanish and foreign golf enthusiasts.

Among the promotional actions designed is the creation of the Andalucía Online Masters, a virtual tournament in which all Spanish members can participate and which will reward their progression while they play their usual competitions throughout 2013. The first classified in this Andalucía Online Masters will obtain a series of prizes related to Andalusian golf.

The presence of Andalusia in all the events of the Communication and Business Cup -a Circuit promoted by the RFEG with the aim of disseminating golf and its values throughout Spanish society-, as well as the organization of a specific tournament that highlights the offer of Andalusian golf, is also part of this collaboration agreement.

Joint actions in the Sponsors Club tournaments organized by the RFEG -where companies and organizations participate with the aim of offering better services to federated golfers, the last one scheduled in 2013 to be held also in Andalusia- and the presence in the media is also contemplated in this collaboration agreement signed between the Ministry of Tourism and Trade of the Andalusian Regional Government and the Royal Spanish Golf Federation with the collaboration of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation.

Golf, a strategic sector in Andalusia

Rafael Rodríguez, Minister of Tourism and Commerce of the Andalusian Regional Government, stated during the presentation of this agreement that “golf is a particularly competitive strategic segment within what is considered to be an Andalusian destination as it is the Autonomous Community with the largest number of golf courses, more than a hundred, as well as having a very diverse complementary offer and a high number of hours of sunshine per year that allow this sport to be enjoyed practically at any time of the year”.

The Minister of Tourism and Trade of the Junta de Andalucía also stressed that “golf is a product of enormous interest for our Community due to its contribution to the deseasonalization of tourism activity and its ability to generate business, which is why golf will continue to be one of the focuses of our promotional activities”.

Andalusia received around 425,000 golf tourists in 2011, travelers with a highly attractive profile for the destination due to their high purchasing power -with an average daily expenditure of 80.31 euros-, their longer average stay of 11.7 days, and their loyalty to the Andalusian Community, as 84% say they return to the region.

In this sense, Rafael Rodriguez stressed that this is a product “vital for the Andalusian tourism industry, so we continue to make a major effort in promotion under a new strategy that prioritize actions that provide greater profitability with the aim of consolidating Andalusia as one of the first golf destinations in Europe. We are very interested in the domestic market, the golfer of our country, and hence the promotional agreement with the RFEG.

A set of imaginative actions

For his part, Gonzaga Escauriaza, president of the RFEG, stated that “it is a pleasure to collaborate once again with Andalusia, a region that has contributed to put golf on the world map. This agreement will further encourage the Spanish player to come to Andalusia, to discover new destinations, all of them characterized by quality”.

The president of the RFEG stressed that “Andalusia has a diversity and richness that are also reflected in golf, with all of them wonderful areas. The Golf and Tourism binomial has worked very well in the past and now, with these imaginative actions, we will achieve together that Andalusia is present in the calendar and in the golfing spirit throughout the year”.
