
Costa del Sol Tourism continues to work with determined interest in one of its most successful and prestigious segments such as golf. Therefore, “the promotional activity of the Costa del Sol around golf does not stop throughout the year; we know that being present in the promotional and sports events of reference makes us stronger as a brand, in addition to settle against competing markets,” said the director general of Turismo Costa del Sol, Arturo Bernal, who, on the other hand, recalled the value of golf tourism for the destination itself “which generates up to 4,400 direct jobs in the destination, as well as an interesting and solvent field of investment”.
“With more than 70 courses, the Costa del Golf is home to the largest concentration of facilities in continental Europe,” said Bernal, who added that “it is a tourist, as well as loyal to our destination, of special economic interest, as it makes a high expenditure of over one hundred euros per day, and an average stay of more than eleven days”.
In this sense, Costa del Golf Tourism takes advantage of the high season of this sport in the province of Malaga (coinciding with the low holiday season), to promote the segment in various international events of guaranteed relevance, as well as paying attention to markets with significant potential for the practice of this sport.
This is the case of the International Golf Tourism Forum, held during the month of October, “an event that has favored the marketing of the segment, while allowing us to present the many new features of the destination, as well as to discover and anticipate the trends that are emerging within this type of tourism,” said Arturo Bernal.
Indeed, the Costa del Sol was present at the various dinners and activities proposed at the event, which allowed to know various golf facilities of the destination and its parallel gastronomic offer, especially in the Western Costa del Sol and Sotogrande area.
During the workshop it was possible to establish professional contacts with about twenty specialized tour operators, where the various products of the destination were promoted, especially the new 360 tool, which generated significant interest. The professionals came mostly from the United Kingdom, the main source market for golf tourists to the Costa del Sol, although companies from Portugal, Belgium, Sweden, the United States, Austria and Germany were also attended.
On the other hand, in the post tour held on Saturday, October 21, options were opened to get to know other golf environments in the province of Malaga, as is the case of Baviera Golf, in the Axarquia.
Swedish market
In early November, Turismo Costa del Sol, together with Turismo Andaluz and OTS Stockholm, attended a specialized fam trip with members of PGA Sweden.
Regarding the destination, Turismo Costa del Sol organized a guided tour of the historic center of Malaga to present its qualities to a total of 22 people, all belonging to different Swedish golf clubs.
The action fulfilled the objective of showing a city capable of hosting fans as a base point of accommodation from which to move around the wide range of courses available at the destination. Likewise, the cultural, leisure and restaurant offer of the city of Malaga caused special interest among the attendees, which can be part of the rest day that, as a general rule, golf fans of this profile plan during their stay in the destination to practice the sport, which generally exceeds ten days.
