The Extraterrestrial, hunted on Jupiter: another sad episode for Tiger Woods

As if his tumultuous sexual excesses, divorce and injuries that have sidelined him from competition were not enough, he is now being arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol. Tiger Woods doesn’t metaphorically rear his head, but he does so literally to be photographed in a mug shot after being arrested at 3 a.m. near his home in Jupiter, Florida.

The American golfer, also known in his heyday as The Extraterrestrial, has apologized for his alleged drunk driving arrest, but said alcohol had nothing to do with the late-night incident.

In a statement to USA Today, Woods, who was detained by police in Florida, blamed the incident on a bad reaction to prescription drugs.

“I understand the gravity of what I did and take full responsibility for my actions,” Woods said in the statement. “I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved,” the former world number one added.

“What happened was an unexpected reaction to the prescription drugs. I didn’t realize that the mixture of medications had affected me so strongly,” the 41-year-old added.

“I would like to apologize wholeheartedly to my family, friends and fans. I expect more from myself,” added the fourteen-time Grand Slam tournament winner and 79 PGA Tour wins.

But Woods did not disclose why he was driving in the early morning hours. Jail records show Woods was booked at 7:18 a.m. by Jupiter police and was released at 10:50 a.m. after posting $1,000 bail.

The jail released Woods’ mug shot, which shows him wearing a white T-shirt.
