The last week of January, from 23 to 1 February, the five winners of the final of the “X Circuito Andalucía Golf Challenge, Destination Dominican Republic Ocean’s 4 Bahía Príncipe” traveled to the Dominican Republic, where for nine days they enjoyed the charms and golf of this Caribbean country, which has become one of the most attractive destinations in the world for fans of this sport.
The X Circuit, which for obvious reasons had to be suspended in February 2020, was resumed in July last year and a total of 16 rounds plus the final were played at Atalaya Golf & Country Club.
Courses such as RC. Valderrama, El Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande, La Reserva de Sotogrande, Finca Cortesin, Flamingos, Santa Clara Granada, Zaudin, etc., hosted last year a “tour” that has already become a classic and the most prestigious of those held in Andalusia.
The winners of the trip to the Dominican Republic were the two best classified in first and second category and the scratch winner of the final played at the Old Course of the Atalaya Golf club in Costa del Sol, for which the first three players, also in each category, had previously qualified in the tournaments held previously, plus the scratch winner of each of the tests. The group of winners of the circuit was joined by thirteen other players who were able to enjoy the same course and the full experience of an unforgettable golf trip.
The winners of the 2020 circuit and the trip to the Dominican Republic were: José Andrés Torres Cabral and Francisco López Castro, classified in first category; Manuel Jesús Godoy de Roj and Luis Miguel Rodríguez Martínez, classified in second category; and Gonzalo Lilly Martínez, scratch winner.
The prize consisted of a nine-day, eight-night, all-inclusive trip to the Hotel Ambar, a five-star luxury resort at Bahia Principe in Punta Cana, and four days of golf at four of the island’s best courses: Punta Espada (Cap Cana), Teeth of the Dog (Casa de Campo), Punta Blanca and Ocean’s 4, our host course on Playa Nueva Romana.
To these courses, included in the circuit prize, the group wanted to add others such as Corales Golf, La Cana Golf or Iberostar Bábaro Golf Club.
Most of the tours, if not all of them, left those who did not know them, but had heard of them, with their mouths open.
Ocean’s 4, in spite of being a more recent course, also surprised everyone very positively for its design and maintenance. The general comments were very complimentary about this course, which has three very different areas and four holes bathed by the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea.
On this occasion, due to the covid and the curfew that existed on the island, the organization of excursions or other activities was complicated, but it was possible to fully enjoy the best golf offered by the best destination in the Caribbean.
From Andalucía Golf/España Golf we want to thank very much the excellent welcome and the reception we received at the magnificent hotel Ambar, of the Bahia Principe resort in Punta Cana, belonging, as well as the Ocean’s 4 course, to Grupo Piñero, one of the reference hotel chains in the Caribbean. Our special thanks to Vanessa Vignali, corporate director of Bahia Principe Golf.
In 2021 the final prize of the XI Andalucía Golf Challenge Circuit will be a similar trip, but in this case to the Mexican Caribbean, where Grupo Piñero also has spectacular hotels and a first class golf course: PGA Riviera Maya. In addition to this course, we will play at the well-known El Camaleón de Mayacoba and other top-level courses on the Yucatan coast.
