94% of Spanish golf club managers have a higher education

Golf clubs in Spain are managed by highly qualified professionals, as can be deduced from the first nationwide survey that the AEGG (Spanish Association of Golf Managers) has carried out among its members and whose results have just been made public.
According to this survey, 92 percent of golf club managers are university graduates and a high percentage, around 40 percent, also have postgraduate studies.
The command of several languages among this group is another of the relevant data provided by this recent survey: nearly 70 percent are able to communicate in two languages in addition to their mother tongue and 20 percent are fluent in three or more languages in addition to Spanish.
Also relevant is the track record and experience in club management of the majority of respondents, with almost 60 percent having more than eleven years of management experience.
“The professionalism, the level of training, the experience, the value, in short, of our managers is really comparable to that of managers in the most developed sectors of society,” explains Marisa Barandiarán, a member of the AEGG. “We knew it, but this survey confirms it with figures. And this is one of the keys for Spain to remain the leading golf tourism destination in Europe. We have very good courses and an exceptional climate, it is true; but we also have facilities managed at the highest level by great professionals and that is fundamental for the development of our industry,” she concludes.

Interest in innovation and training
In addition to gaining a deeper understanding of golf club managers, the survey aimed to directly gather the interests of members in order to adapt AEGG’s initiatives to them.
Well, Spanish club managers express a clear interest in innovation, the digitalization of all processes and the application of new technologies and big data to their management areas, so they present themselves as professionals aware of the changes needed to adapt the golf club industry to the new paradigms.
Continuous training and learning for the effective performance of their skills is another of the concerns that AEGG members have shown in this survey and that the association will take into account when planning its next initiatives. “the AEGG, corroborates its president, Enrique Gil, “is committed, and will be even more so in the coming months, to facilitate this training and communication among its members and to collaborate as much as possible in the innovation and modernization of the golf sector, which attracted more than 1.2 million tourists to Spain in 2019”.

About the survey
The survey, conducted by the Spanish Association of Golf Managers (AEGG) to its more than 250 members (in Spain there are about 350 clubs with golf courses), was carried out between January 28 and February 5, 2021, obtaining 63% of responses, always anonymously.
The purpose, in addition to gaining a better understanding of the member’s profile, was to gather information that would enable the Association to better adapt to the needs of its members.
