
The program of the VI Business Meeting of the Spanish Golf Courses Association (AECG), focused on innovation and sustainability in the sector, has been confirmed.
Jerez de la Frontera will be the setting for an event that will address the challenges of the sector from an innovative and sustainable perspective.

May 15, 2025.- The program of the VI Business Meeting and Assembly of members of the Spanish Association of Golf Courses (AECG), which will be held from 4 to 6 June in Jerez de la Frontera (Cadiz), and this year is entitled “Innovation and sustainability in the management of golf courses” is already confirmed. The Hotel Barceló Montecastillo Golf & Sports Resort is the venue for this meeting, which has the collaboration of the City Council of Jerez de la Frontera, and the sponsorship of Turismo Andaluz, Diputación de Cádiz, Lándaluz, Callaway and Hola in Company.
What is this Business Meeting of the Spanish Golf Courses Association about?
A meeting that will bring together leading representatives from the business, tourism, sports and technology sectors to share experiences and analyze the future of the golf industry in Spain, with special attention to water efficiency, sustainable agronomy and the impact of new technologies.
The program includes round tables and presentations by experts such as the 2nd Vice President of the Association of Municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol, Mr. José Manuel Fernández; the professor of the University of Cadiz and author of the Golf and Water report, Mr. Juan Antonio López; and representatives of the sustainable agronomy team of The R&A, such as Richard Windows, Luis Cornejo and Pablo Muñoz.
Also noteworthy is the participation of Ed Edwards, CEO of Performance 54, who will speak about the future of professional golf, as well as the CEO of Tinámica, Enrique Serrano, who will address the role of artificial intelligence in sports management.
As an inspirational finale, chef and entrepreneur Dani García will star in the session “Conquering the mythical Hoyo 19”, in a conversation on creativity, self-improvement and leadership.
The event will have the institutional representation of Luis Nigorra, president of the Spanish Association of Golf Courses, Juan Guerrero-Burgos, president of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, Pablo Mansilla, president of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation, and the Mayoress of Jerez de la Frontera, Mrs. Mª José García Pelayo. The closing ceremony is scheduled to be given by the Councilor of Tourism of the Andalusian Government, Mr. Arturo Bernal.
Business Meeting of the Spanish Association of Golf Courses, not just any meeting
The meeting, which will be held at the Hotel Barceló Montecastillo Golf & Sports Resort, will be completed with a cocktail dinner, a show at Bodegas Lustau and the traditional AECG Golf Tournament on Friday, June 6, in which representatives of clubs and companies in the sector from all over the country will participate.
For Carlos Pitarch, vice president of the Spanish Association of Golf Courses, “the celebration of this meeting for the third year in Andalusia puts in value what golf means in this community both in terms of tourism and sports, not in vain, golf is a source of wealth and quality employment in Spain and especially in Andalusia, generating a direct, indirect and induced economic impact that is estimated at 5.456 million euros, and generating direct and indirect employment that is estimated at around 51,000 workers (Data extracted from the study prepared in 2024 by IE University ‘Golf as a catalyst for economic activity in Spain’).
Andalusia in general, and the province of Cadiz in particular, has golf courses that have hosted major national and international competitions, making Andalusia a luxury showcase for Spanish golf, which is why the AECG is once again holding its annual event in this community. In addition, in this year’s edition we put the focus on sustainability to continue advancing in the triple sustainability: social, economic and environmental that we always defend in the sector, and in the AI applied to the golf sector.
Jerez’s words on the Spanish Golf Course Association
Antonio Real, Deputy Mayor for Tourism and Promotion of Jerez de la Frontera, stressed that “it is an honor for the City Council to welcome the Spanish Association of Golf Courses to the city, which carries out an outstanding work in the promotion of this sport”. The deputy mayor stressed “the importance of the role that golf is playing in the tourism industry in Jerez and its area of influence, mainly in terms of seasonal tourism.
He highlighted “the attraction among amateurs and professionals the magnificent golf courses we have” and acknowledged that “each year Jerez recorded a greater influx of visitors who travel to our destination attracted by this sport, as well as a longer stay in our city of this profile of golf-loving tourists.
SPANISH GOLF COURSES ASSOCIATION
The Spanish Association of Golf Courses is a non-profit business organization created to defend the interests of the golf industry business and was founded in November 2015. The AECG brings together a group of more than 200 golf courses throughout Spain, a figure that represents 55% of the sector, and it is an institution with an integrating vocation, which intends to structure the sector by generating added value to its member companies.
