The Open de España Femenino, a tournament within the European Women’s Professional Tour, which will be held at La Quinta Golf between September 15 and 18 under the sponsorship of the Costa del Sol Tourist Board, “is not only a great sporting event in which the best players on the European continent will be present, but also a showcase of what the Costa del Sol has to offer”, according to Salvador Bernal, Manager of the Costa del Sol Tourist Board, at the official presentation of this competition.
The consolidation of this tournament and, above all, the excellent line-up of players participating on this occasion, with the presence of the best golfers on the European Tour assured -with special mention for three Solheim Cup players: Laura Davies, Melissa Reid and Caroline Hedwall-, make this Women’s Spanish Open, in the words of Salvador Bernal, “an excellent opportunity to publicize the excellence of this land, which will reach 240 million homes around the world. Golf is always excellent news on the Costa del Sol and events like this is when we get our chest out”.
For his part, Miguel Angel Caderot, Director of Communication of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, highlighted the involvement of all parties in the success of the tournament: “we must praise the effort and support of all in such complicated times, but it is now, precisely, when it is necessary to bet on golf as a vehicle for promoting many values, including tourism, which has gone hand in hand for so many years and has generated so many benefits in areas where, as in the Costa del Sol, the administrations have bet on it with great success.
Iñigo Aramburu, General Manager of Deporte & Business, organizer of the Open de España Femenino, thanked “the Royal Spanish Golf Federation and the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation for their continued confidence in the organization of the tournament. And the Tourist Board of the Costa del Sol, which despite the current difficulties continues to support the event that we are going to move forward with great success. The setting is perfect and we have all the ingredients for a great Spanish Open, the best in history”.
In his turn, Manuel Piñero, world champion and professional of La Quinta, declared that all the members of this great golf complex “are very proud to host it because we have fought hard to have it and we are going to do our best to make everything go well. The course is in magnificent condition and I am aware that all the players are very excited to play it”.
Finally, Eugenio Alises, member and representative of the Andalusian Golf Federation, expressed his gratitude “to the organizers and sponsors who have placed their trust in our land, as well as to La Quinta for the facilities they are providing and the fantastic attitude of their staff”.
One hundred and twenty-six players, including fourteen Spaniards, will fight for the title in play, defended by England’s Laura Davies, which has so far proved elusive for Spanish interests.
The Open de España Femenino has the main sponsorship of the Patronato de Turismo de la Costa del Sol in a tournament organized by Deporte & Business and supported by the Real Federación Española de Golf, the Real Federación Andaluza de Golf, the Ladies European Tour and La Quinta Golf, which hosts this tournament for the first time in its history.
