Tiger Woods could not see his dream of regaining the first place in the world ranking come true yesterday, and it was not because he had a bad day but because the day was bad, meteorologically speaking, and the last day of the Arnold Palmer had to be postponed until today.
The tournament was suspended after an impressive storm interrupted the final round of the tournament being played in Bay Hill, Orlando.
Woods had played only two holes when all the players decided to take shelter in the clubhouse in the gale.Tiger had birdied his second hole and was now three strokes ahead of Rickie Fowler, Keegan Bradley and Justin Rose in the overall lead.
Woods is trying to win the Bay Hill tournament for the eighth time, and if he succeeds, he would regain the top spot in the world rankings, which he last held in the last week of October 2010.
SERGIO’S STROKE
And while the long-awaited moment arrives for the Californian, not for Rory McIlroy, whom he will dethrone, the PGA Tour tournament had a Spanish protagonist, although not for his good result on the scoreboard, but for executing one of those unthinkable shots.
Sergio Garcia left a shot for history on the 11th hole of Bay Hill. The Spaniard, far from the lead of the tournament after suffering a quadruple bogey on the 6th hole, sent his ball to a tree and, instead of dropping, he could not think of anything else but to climb to try to save the situation. Sergio had to hit left-handed and even so he managed to send the ball to the center of the fairway.
However, the Spaniard felt discomfort in his shoulder after hitting the risky shot, and preferred to abandon and not risk it with the Augusta Masters just around the corner and with the tournament stopped by a brutal storm.
