Money is certainly not lacking, and this year has not gone badly for the “reborn” Tiger Woods, who has pocketed 5.4 million dollars on the PGA Tour in a season that has included a triumph (the Tour Championship in September), two second places and four other top 10s. In his successful career on the PGA Tour he has earned 115.5 million dollars in prize money, a figure that is dwarfed by what he has been paid as the advertising image of major brands.
Such is his economic bonanza that Woods is once again in the top 10 of the Forbes list of the richest celebrities in the United States, which bases its publication on net worth figures. Tiger, who turns 43 this month, is tied for ninth place in that ranking with author James Patterson, with an estimated net worth of $800 million.
That amount is an increase of $50 million over last year, when his $750 million put him in eighth place on the same list, which is topped by film director George Lucas, with $5.4 billion. The only other athlete in the top 10 of that Forbes magazine ranking is former NBA star Michael Jordan, in fourth place with $1.7 billion.
The Forbes list is based on several factors including career earnings, real estate holdings, private company stakes and other assets.
