Turismo Costa del Sol has created together with five clubs in the province of Malaga the amateur circuit ‘Ladies Tour Challenge’ as a tribute and promotion of women’s golf. In this sense has been the Real Club de Guadalhorce the scene of the presentation of the new golf circuit ‘Amateur Ladies Tour Challenge Costa del Sol’, a new exclusive women’s competition thanks to the commitment of five golf courses on the Costa del Sol, Real Club Guadalhorce, Santa Clara Club, El Chaparral Golf, El Paraíso Golf, and Club de Golf La Cañada; and the main sponsorship of Tourism and Planning Costa del Sol, as well as the Safamotor Group.
The presentation of the tournament was attended by technical staff of Turismo Costa del Sol and representatives of the five clubs that created the competition: Carlos Santos, director of Santa Clara; Teresa Torrejón, president of the competition committee of Real Club Guadalhorce; Pedro Batista, director of Real Club Guadalhorce; David Ramos, director of El Paraíso; Domingo Gavira, director of El Chaparral; and Ignacio Sánchez, director of La Cañada, among others.
The Ladies Tour Challenge is a pairs circuit aimed at all players over 18 years old, which has been created with the aim of supporting and promoting women’s golf at amateur level on the Costa del Sol and throughout the region, and which is in turn a nod to professional golf carrying the Solheim Cup 2023 flag, as well as the Race to Costa del Sol, which will be held soon in our province.
The competition dates and courses are as follows: Real Club Guadalhorce: June 26; Santa Clara: July 31; El Chaparral: August 28; El Paraíso Golf: September 26; La Cañada: October 23; and the Grand Final: November 20.
The competition will be played in five courses, with a single category with a maximum handicap of 30.4, under the Fourball Bestball Stableford modality in which the best four cards of the couple will score, that is to say, the worst score can be discarded. Although it will also be possible to play in each course without having to play the complete circuit.
In each course, prizes will be awarded to the three best pairs, along with other special prizes, thanks to the sponsorship of the Safamotor Group, among others, such as closest balls, longest drive, among others; with the special prize of an invitation to the Grand Final for the winners.
Each event will have a picnic and all prize-giving on the fields will be carried out respecting all sanitary measures in place at the time of the event.
The Ranking is the sum of the four best results of the five rounds played, so the worst result may be discarded. The Final will be played on a course and on a date yet to be determined. The winning pair of each course together with the 10 best ranked pairs of the absolute ranking will be invited to participate in the final.
The winning pair in the Grand Final will receive a trophy and commemorative material of the tournament; a weekend at a Hotel on the Costa del Sol, two golf courses on the Costa del Sol; an invitation to next year’s circuit; an invitation to play the Pro-Am of the Women’s Spanish Open; and tickets to the Solheim Cup 2023.
The CEO of Costa del Sol Tourism, Margarita del Cid, has referred to the launch of this circuit and has indicated that “it is another example of the commitment of the destination for this segment and in particular, women’s golf, which is bringing us so much joy to this destination, always with an eye on the dream that we will see fulfilled in 2023 when the Solheim comes to the Costa del Sol”.
