The prestigious course, scene of the historic 1997 Ryder Cup, two American Express World Championships and sixteen editions of the Volvo Masters, among other major international competitions, has been the luxurious setting for this year’s first Andalucía Golf Challenge Tournament.
The weather conditions were up to the exceptional playing field, extraordinarily presented, as the sun shone splendidly and enjoyed a spring-like temperature despite the fact that the month of February had just begun. Fortunately, the wind that blew that day with unusual force in much of the Costa del Sol was not felt over Valderrama.
The competition distributed more than 6,000 euros in prizes, including golf equipment (clubs, bags, shoes, etc.) from Holiday Golf and long-distance trips sponsored by Turkish Airlines. In addition, all participants received a bottle of Gran Reserva wine from the Somontano appellation of origin as a gift.
The amateurs who attended the tournament, coming from different Spanish provinces, played, in general, at a good level and enjoyed both the course and the good weather.
As for the results, in first category Dan Soderberg won with 37 points, followed by Carlos Hernández García and Juan Jesús Fernández Pérez, both with 33 points. In the second category, Christer Sunesson won with 32 points, second place went to Nicolás Gutiérrez Carmona and third place to Francisco Cano, both with 30 points.
The prize for the best result in ladies went to Marlen Largo Labrador, who recorded 29 points. The prize for thelongest drive (on hole 9) went to Eduardo Martin-Montalvo, while the prize for the ball closest to the flag (on hole 3) went to Jesús Castizo Vázquez.
The awards ceremony, at the clubhouse facilities, where a magnificent cocktail was served, was presided over by the editor of Andalucía Golf, Antonio Sánchez, and the managing director of the host club, Javier Reviriego, who was recently named Manager of the Year by the ClubManagerSpain association.
