10 year old boy will play for twelve hours straight for a charitable purpose

Solidarity knows no age. Just ask Archie Qualtrough, a 10 year old boy from New Mills, England, who will play 108 holes in one day in a charity event to raise money in memory of other young athletes who died too young. The little golfer plans to complete the 20-mile challenge over twelve hours, playing six rounds on three golf courses. Archie will begin his challenge at 7 a.m. on May 30.

The fundraising will go to Cardiac Risk in the Young in memory of Charlie Craig, a champion cyclist who died as a teenager, and Young Minds, in memory of Ben Stollery, a rugby player who died at the age of just 18 years old. Two golf charities, the Golf Foundation and the Finlay Cooper Fund, will also be supported.

Archie’s father, Stuart, said that when his son, handicap 23, came up with the idea he was a little skeptical. “The full half round,” he said, “takes about four hours, but if you speed it up, with the help of a buggy, it can be half that. Archie is practically bombproof, but the question is whether it will be fast enough.”
