9-year-old girl hopes to qualify for the US Open

Keep this name: Nicole Felce. At 9 years old, this little girl from Holiday, Florida, can rewrite the history of one of the greats of women’s golf, the Women’s US Open, and become the youngest player to qualify for it. In 2007, now LPGA Tour professional Lexi Thompson set the record for the youngest player to qualify for the tournament at 12 years, 4 months and 18 days. That record was broken last year by 11-year-old Lucy Li, who posted two rounds of 78 at the tournament in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

Next Monday, the 18th, marks the one-year anniversary of Nicole’s first hole-in-one, and it’s also the day her dream could become a reality. Qualifying for a spot in the W “I’ve been playing with the older girls all my life,” she says. “I like playing with them because I learn so much.” For Jim Felce, Nicole’s father, “she has the attitude and the desire, and most of all the heart. “She weighs 110 pounds and 100 of that is pure heart.”

“I’m a little nervous,” admits the young golfer. “It would mean a lot to me, I mean God has given me a great talent and I have to take advantage of it. I would be very happy, I would scream with happiness!”
