A new golf season has started very recently and a certain optimism seems to float in the air, mixed with a rare feeling of longing for better times. Nostalgia in this case is not good. The occupancy data of the fields in the last few months have not been bad, in any case somewhat better than in previous years. Especially the summer was quite positive for almost all of them. The immediate forecasts do not look bad either, or at least they did not at the time this magazine was published.
It is not that we are in full recovery process, understanding this as a return to the euphoria of the first years of this century, but at least it seems that the trend is beginning to reverse, that we are no longer falling but starting to rise, albeit timidly. It will be difficult to return to the occupancy figures of four or five years ago. There are many factors at play -some of them we cannot influence- so it is better not to set those quotas as an immediate objective because we could become frustrated. We have a lot in our favor: location (a little less than two and a half hours from any European city), climate, quality, service (which can be improved), many ideas and a dynamic and highly professionalized sector that is a guarantee of success as soon as the outlook begins to clear.
Never abandon promotion, never understand this as an expense but as an investment, it is essential for our destination to always be in the minds of golf enthusiasts around the world. Drastic cuts in this area can lead us to catastrophe when there are so many areas waiting for our setback.
This is why it is very positive that major golf tournaments are held in Andalusia. We ended the summer with the Open de España Femenino, played at La Quinta in mid-September, we continue with the Benahavís Seniors Masters, also at La Quinta; and we end October with the return to Valderrama of the high competition: the Andalucía Masters, an event that attracts the best players of the Old Continent. And although it is not in our hands to end the blissful crisis, there is a lot we can do to bring back golf fans. We, Andalucía Golf, as the first organ of communication of Andalusian golf, are willing to work hard to make the immediate future much better.
