Furyk wins again on the American Tour after 100 tournaments

Jim Furyk, 44, who had not won on the PGA Tour since September 2010 (100 tournaments ago), won Sunday’s RBC Heritage, played at Harbour Town in Hilton Head (South Carolina, USA), by defeating his compatriot Kevin Kisner on the second hole of the playoff.

The American, who has one major to his name (the 2003 US Open), had not won a tournament since he won The Tour Championship on September 26, 2010.

The veteran player from West Chester (Pennsylvania) has had to wait exactly one hundred tournaments to enjoy a triumph again, the seventeenth of his career on the PGA Tour.

To do so, he had to defeat Kevin Kisner in two playoff holes, with whom he finished the four rounds tied at 266 strokes (18 under par).

In the first extra hole, played on the 18th, both golfers signed the par 4. On the second, the par 3 17th, Furyk made birdie with a 3.7-meter putt to take the victory. Kisner missed his putt of almost seven meters.

Until now his playoff experience had been clearly unfavorable. In the eleven previous playoffs Furyk had been defeated in eight, most recently in the 2012 Transitions Championship.

Furyk and Kisner were two strokes ahead of Troy Merritt, three strokes ahead of Brendon Todd and four strokes ahead of Matt Kuchar. All of them Americans.
