Physical trainer Jésica Reyes presented Smart Golf: Entrenar para rendir y prevenir, her new book, on Friday 19 June at the Higuerón Resort Hotel Gran Málaga, Fuengirola. The event brought together numerous guests around a work that applies the science of training to golf, and confirmed Smart Golf as one of the sector’s most eagerly awaited new releases.
After greeting those present, Jésica Reyes gave a brief introduction to the book and sat down for a conversation with Ismael Galancho Reina —university lecturer, communicator, writer, dietitian and nutritionist, well known for advising, among others, Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Enzo Fernández—. In her welcome she had a special mention for the magazine Andalucía Golf / España Golf, with which she has collaborated for ten years, regularly publishing a section much appreciated by readers. After the talk, a cocktail was served to share a very special moment with the attendees.
Below we reproduce an extract from the presentation discussion of Smart Golf between Jésica and Ismael.
How was it made and what inspired the book?
Smart Golf was born from Jésica Reyes’ experience as a specialised physical trainer, whose first major professional challenge was working directly with elite golfers. Drawing on that background and on the evolution of the sport over the last 30 years —where ball speed and distances have increased enormously—, Reyes identified the need to apply a biopsychosocial and holistic model to golf training.
The book was conceived on the premise that the golfer must train like an athlete. Its development integrated an interdisciplinary approach, unifying the language of physical trainers, physiotherapists, doctors, nutritionists and sports psychologists to avoid the contradictions that often confuse the athlete.
What can the reader expect from Smart Golf?
Although it specialises in golf, it is a manual that anyone can benefit from, whether or not they play the sport, thanks to its focus on postural health, mobility and health in general. These are the pillars developed by Smart Golf:
- Holistic vision: the content is not limited to traditional physical preparation; it addresses rest, nutrition, stress and emotion management, and how the overall context affects performance.
- Comprehensive athletic preparation: it explains how the swing —a synergistic, complex gesture that can be aggressive on the lumbar spine— requires developing multiple capacities: intra- and intermuscular coordination, dynamic postural stability, strength, power, mobility, flexibility and aerobic capacity.
- Mind-body connection: it highlights the importance of good physical condition to prevent fatigue on the final holes, something that directly influences concentration, heart-rate control and the psychological precision of the short game.
- Injury prevention: it analyses the most common ailments —lower back in general, hand and wrist in professionals, elbow in amateurs— and offers guidelines to combat them through prior assessment and exercise.
The great practical value of Smart Golf
The reader will not find only theory. Smart Golf stands out as a highly practical tool that includes:
- More than 200 exercises explained in detail with images.
- Interactive QR codes in each section that link to software where you can watch videos of the technical execution of the exercises.
- Specific warm-up routines (with clubs, pre-gym or pre-golf).
- Personalised training: the software even allows readers to request plans adapted to their individual needs.
In short, Smart Golf is presented as an essential guide for professionals in the sector, for players looking to lower their handicap safely and for anyone interested in improving their postural hygiene and quality of life.
The book Smart Golf is now available on Amazon and at the main chains and bookshops in Spain such as El Corte Inglés, Casa del Libro and Fnac, among others.
