
China’s Guan Tian-lang, 13 years and 173 days old, will be the youngest competitor in the history of the European Tour at the Volvo China Open, which begins Thursday at the Tianjin Binhai Lake Golf Club, 130 kilometers southeast of Beijing. Guan started playing golf at the age of four and since then has won numerous titles around the world. One of the most relevant was the World Junior in San Diego last year. The very young Chinese golfer earned a place among the 156 who will compete in the China Open by finishing fourth in the qualifying round held in Hangzhou three weeks ago. Guang will surpass Jason Hak, who played 72 holes of the Hong Kong Open at the age of 14, in 2009. The Spanish participation in this tournament is completed by Rafa Cabrera-Bello (third last week in Malaysia), Pablo Larrazábal, José Manuel Lara, Pablo Martín, Alejandro Cañizares, Ignacio Garrido, Carlos del Moral and Jorge Campillo. The tournament distributes 3 million euros in prize money, of which the winner will pocket 500,000. The defending champion is the Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts.
