The Aramco Team Series at Sotogrande has proved to be of great interest to the world’s top female golfers, as the LET (Ladies European Tour) has revealed a host of international stars heading to Andalusia for the second of its four $1 million tournaments.
Thus, the European heroines of the Solheim Cup; Georgia Hall, Charley Hull and Bronte Law have confirmed their participation in the three-day event, which will take place at Club La Reserva de Sotogrande, from August 5 to 7.
They will be joined by Scotland’s Catriona Matthew, who will rely on the unique format of the Aramco Team Series to get to know some of her key players better ahead of September’s rematch with the United States.
Hall, the 2018 AIG Women’s Open winner who finished fourth in the inaugural Aramco Team Series in London has detailed, “I loved the experience in London. Apart from the Solheim Cup it’s rare to be able to have an opportunity to be able to play team golf. So it’s not only an incredible innovation for the Tour, which is exciting to continue to be a part of, but it’s also a good opportunity to impress the captains.”

Representing the United States at the Aramco Team Series at Sotogrande will be 2021 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship runner-up and four-time U.S. Solheim Cup player Lizette Salas.
The American, however, will have stiff competition, as compatriot Alison Lee will also be in Sotogrande, as will Thailand’s Moriya Jutanugarn, the 2013 LPGA Rookie of the Year and the 2018 LPGA Rookie of the Year, American Lindsey Weaver.
The Aramco Team Series in Sotogrande is the second event of its kind to take place this year, following the series’ debut in London two weeks ago. Sotogrande thus precedes the Aramco Team Series in New York (October 14-16) and the one in Jeddah (November 10-12). In fact, the Jeddah event will take place a few days after the Aramco Saudi Ladies International presented by the Public Investment Fund, which will be held from November 4 to 7.
In each Aramco Team Series tournament, 36 captains lead teams of four players, who compete together to achieve the lowest combined score over three days of golf.

All teams include three LET players, selected through a unique draft system, in which each captain chooses one player and another is randomly assigned. The fourth member of each team is an amateur golfer, a position open to any golfer from Spain who wants to play in the Aramco Team Series at Sotogrande through the tournament’s Team Up competition.
This means that it could be up to an amateur golfer to sink a winning putt in the LET tournament to secure prize money for the professional players, a unique feat in world golf.
The inaugural event of the Series saw Team Cowan, captained by Germany’s Olivia Cowan, along with Sarina Schmidt, Diksha Dagar and amateur Andy Kelsen, win the team tournament of the London edition of the Aramco Team Series.
Norway’s Marianne Skarpnord, who holed a putt of more than 10 feet on her final hole to win the individual competition, her fifth Ladies European Tour title, will also play in the Aramco Team Series – Sotogrande.
She stated: “It was amazing to win and go down in history as the first winner of the competition. London was great fun and I can’t wait to play in Sotogrande again next month. Events like the Aramco Team Series show that a great job is being done to promote women’s golf, so I know that the opportunities available to me for these magical moments are only growing, which is fantastic. It’s great to be able to be a part of them.”
The Aramco Team Series of Sotogrande will take place between August 5 and 7 at Club La Reserva. The tournament will comply with COVID-19 protocols, as well as local regulations and government recommendations.
