Ayora and Leal, new champions of Spain for children and youngsters

Double success for Andalusian golf. Gonzalo Leal Montero and Ángel Ayora Fanegas have been proclaimed champions of Spain for Children and Benjamins, respectively, in the great celebration of junior golf that this year has been played during three days in the extraordinary complex of La Manga Club in Murcia.

The young talent from La Cañada Golf Club’s prolific junior team arrived at the last round in fourth place and with a four-stroke disadvantage that many players would have considered insurmountable.

However, Angel Ayora did not lower his arms at any time, confident in his chances of fighting for the title, and reserved for the end a stellar performance that culminated with a fantastic round of 36 strokes (+1).

This result catapulted him to the lead, tied at 115 strokes with Adriá Maldonado Martins from Mallorca.

Thus, both players had to play a playoff where Angel Ayora consummated the most important victory of his short but promising career.

In addition, his clubmate Juan Pedro Ramírez Prieto also had an excellent championship, finishing third, three strokes behind the new champion of Spain.

The second title for the Andalusian delegation was won in a majestic way by Gonzalo Leal in the Infantil Male category.

The player federated by the Real Club de Golf de Sevilla got into the fight for the victory after delivering a second card of 70 strokes (-3), which allowed him to place second, two strokes behind the leader of the table.

Already in the third and final round, Gonzalo Leal went all out, with the fighting spirit that characterizes him, was gradually reducing the disadvantage with respect to Barcelona’s Eduard Rousaud Sabaté before overcoming him and defending a victory that tastes like glory.

With this title, Gonzalo Leal adds to a magnificent list of achievements that includes other relevant achievements such as the runner-up in the 2012 Spanish Alevín Championship or the second place in the 2014 U16 Spanish Championship.

Other good results of our players in Murcia were the fourth place of María Contreras Luna (El Paraíso Golf Club) in the Girls’ Children’s category and Patience Rhodes (La Cañada) among the Benjamins, the fifth position of Daniela Aramburu Muñoz (SIGA Sotogrande) in the Girls’ Benjamin category, and the sixth place shared by Ignacio Puente Rodríguez de Austria (Real Club de Golf de Sevilla) and Felipe Barrena Rodríguez (Real Club de Golf Guadalmina) in the Boys’ Children’s category.

Also, also finished in the top 10 of their respective classifications the juniors Fernando Canela Gomez (SIGA Sotogrande), who was seventh, Maria Torres Lobato (La Cañada), who finished ninth, and Marc Waller Torras (Santa Maria Golf & Country Club), who finished tenth.
