Arcos Golf, the new name of Arcos Gardens, in the interior of the province of Cadiz, in a setting of large lakes, reopened its doors to play the second week of August, after having been closed since early May. It is one of those hidden gems that from time to time we discover and never cease to amaze us.
A new company, owned fifty-fifty by Omar Suárez, who is also the new managing director of the course, and the Valenzuela Group, has taken over this course and the twelve-room hotel/cortijo, which will also serve as a clubhouse.
“Our first objective,” says Omar Suárez, “after negotiating with the bankruptcy administration that had taken over the complex, was to reopen the course this summer, and to that end we began the third week of July with a very intense work to recover fairways, greens, etc. Still (at the time of closing this edition) the course is not as we would like it to be, but it will be in a very short time. It is impressive how it is recovering just by watering. I think that by the end of September the course will be perfect”.
“This course,” he continues, “has a magnificent design by the American company Landmak, and a very solid construction that makes it a unique jewel. In fact if the course had not been built in this way we would not have been able to recover it so quickly, I even dare say it would have been irrecoverable”.
-Are you confident that with your new management the field will not fail again?
-Actually, the course did not fail: what failed was the resort as a whole, the real estate part. This course has always been a reference in Andalusia and Spain, and we are sure it will be again.
“Our project now”, Omar Suárez concludes, “is only about golf, and we have great ideas to relaunch this course, adapting it to the current circumstances. On the other hand, we are very proud to contribute to the tourism sector of Arcos, creating jobs, and providing one more reason to visit this town full of charm and magic”.
