-How has 2014 started?
-I have very positive feelings for this year. The truth is that these first 5 months are going very well and the forecast for the whole year is better than in 2013, so there are only reasons to be satisfied.
-At Finca Cortesín they are constantly innovating and improving, and among the innovations they are implementing in management is ‘revenue management’. What does this consist of?
-There are already more courses that have implemented it in Spain, and in the United States it has been a reality for some time. We have certainly joined the bandwagon of this formula of selling green fees to maximize revenue and occupancy through the booking platform Golfswitch together with Golfspain. Revenue management basically consists of optimizing the relationship between occupancy and price to achieve the maximum possible profit. This type of management has been done for many years in airlines and hotels and it seems that it is finally being implemented in the world of golf. From this summer customers will be able to book through our online booking platform at the best possible price at all times, and this will depend on the occupancy and advance booking. In other words, the earlier you book, the better price you can get. This is a great advantage for the players, since they will always have more attractive prices and it will help us to maximize occupancy and income. -What is this new app you have shown me?
-We hope to launch the app in the summer and it is a customized app for Finca Cortesín. In addition to containing all the information about our course and resort, it includes a GPS measurement system to the flag and videos of each hole. But, of course, the biggest advantage is the benefits and discounts that only customers with the app will be able to enjoy at Finca Cortesín. We therefore encourage all customers, especially residents of the area, to download this app, which is fantastic and has many possibilities.
-Are there any other developments in the field?
-For us, golf course maintenance is the number one priority. We do not skimp money on it, as we believe that the most important thing is that the course is in perfect condition for the game, and this is almost an obsession and the top priority. Accompanied by impeccable service, of course. This year we have renovated several tees to give more amplitude to the tees and a better view, such as holes 11, 14 and 15. We continue with the continuous improvement of drainage, renovation of bunkers, improvement of landscaping, and we plan to renovate the greens in approximately two years to improve the quality of the grass with the latest varieties available. We intend to host a major European Tour tournament again, and for this reason the course cannot stop improving and growing.
-Finca Cortesin continues to be the reference of quality on the Costa del Sol then…
-As I said, our top priority is to provide quality and service, which is why it also costs more money to play here. But we believe it’s worth it, and that’s what our customers tell us, who repeat and grow every year. For this year we are also planning the renovation of all our buggies GPS to a more modern and tactile model, we are developing a special Elite program for our Jack Nicklaus golf academy and for 2015 we already have several ideas to surprise and give more service to our customers. But I will tell you more about this later, when we have everything well developed.
