Carlota Ciganda, an icon of Spanish women’s golf today, has started the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España by raising personal and other challenges, announced with conviction, with great fanfare, in the run-up to the celebration of this important tournament, which takes place at the Los Naranjos course in Malaga between November 25 and 28.
“Winning the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España would fulfill my best dreams,” he revealed shortly before participating in a spectacular promotional event sponsored by Reale Seguros, hitting a golf ball to a floating green in Puerto Banús, to challenge from that moment on anyone who wants to imitate his action during the week.
The Navarrese golfer, Spanish champion in all categories since she won the junior tournament in 2000 until she won the professional title in 2012, lacks precisely the Open de España to close the circle of her outstanding sporting curriculum in our country.
With four victories on the Ladies European Tour, another two on the LPGA and three Solheim Cups behind her, Carlota Ciganda is eager to remove the only national thorn in the side of a career that also includes a victory in an LET tournament played in our country, specifically the Estrella Damm Mediterranean Ladies Open held in Sitges in 2019.
“I remember with great satisfaction that victory, which by the way cost me a lot. But I’m still missing the Spanish Open and I’m going to do everything I can to get it”, insists the Navarre golfer, aware that the road is full of obstacles due to the presence of the best players on the circuit at Los Naranjos Golf Club.
The battle looks epic, but just before the starting gun there was time to take golf to the fairway and participate in a sustainable action, made with biodegradable balls containing food for fish, and that, with the contribution of their partners, has an important charitable and social background.
“That golf serves to help people who need it most is something that fills me with pride,” said Carlota Ciganda at the opening ceremony, after successfully hitting the ball to a floating green, challenging those who visit Puerto Banus during the week to perform the same action and join the initiative promoted by the RFGA and the RFEG to get started in golf. All this before starting the competition to concentrate body and soul on his personal challenge: to win the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España and complete the perfect circle.

Carlota Ciganda took advantage of the stroke of honor ceremony to encourage the participants in the tournament to join the #birdiesforwishes challenge with the aim of raising funds for the Make-A-Wish Spain Foundation and make the hopes of children with serious illnesses like Patricia come true, present in Puerto Banús, who will celebrate her eighteenth birthday, and her new life after having recently undergone surgery for a brain injury, during the week of the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España. Carlota Ciganda will donate 70 euros for every birdie she scores during the tournament.
