David Steele donates 75,000 euros raised by his golf marathon to the AECC

The former European Tour player David Steele has handed over to the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) 75,000 euros raised in the charity golf marathon he played on June 7 at the El Higueral course. The English player played more than 18 complete rounds of 18 holes with the aim of raising funds for the local headquarters of AECC Marbella and the Contigo Center of La Línea, which works in favor of underprivileged children.

The delivery of the check was one of the most emotional moments of the press conference in which the first Charity Golf Tour of AECC Marbella was presented, which will be played this summer in four golf courses in Costa del Sol: Flamingos del Club de Golf Villa Padierna, Real Club de Golf Guadalmina, Aloha Golf Club and Marbella Club Resort.

The president of AECC Marbella, Maika Pérez de Cobas, was in charge of thanking Steele for his generosity. “On behalf of cancer patients and families I want to thank David Steele’s gesture with the AECC. This donation comes to us at the best possible time after a very bad year where we have had to suspend for the second time our Gala, which represents 40% of our annual income. Undoubtedly, his contribution will be very important to maintain our services to those who need them most”.

Pérez de Cobas also had a few words of thanks to the main sponsor. “Equally essential is the help that La Cañada Shopping gives us every year, being our main sponsor in the Marbella Gala or in golf circuits like this one. We are also very grateful for the collaboration of €50,000 that they are going to give us this year and the support we have received since I became president of Marbella. Without La Cañada Shopping, none of what we do would be the same”.

At the presentation ceremony of the circuit were Maika Pérez de Cobas, president of AECC Marbella; Ignacio del Cuvillo, vice president of AECC Marbella; Princess Beatriz de Orleans, vice president of AECC Marbella; María Olivo, on behalf of the shopping center La Cañada Shopping, main sponsor of the event; Alonso Mena, sports councilor of the Benahavís Town Hall and Manuel Cardeña, sports councilor of the Marbella Town Hall, both municipalities are prominent collaborators of the tournaments; Jorge Manzur, general manager of Anantara Villa Padierna Palace; and on behalf of the golf courses: Ricardo Arranz, Los Flamingos Golf; Manuel Muñoz Navarro, president of Real Club de Golf Guadalmina; Rod Bastard, director Marbella Club Resort, and Rafael Fontán Zubizarreta, president of Aloha Golf Club.
