Dies after being attacked by bees while golfing

A 64-year-old American man has died after suffering from nearly two dozen bee stings while golfing in Otsego County, Michigan.

Darryl Dever, of Ohio, was enjoying play at Treetops North on Wednesday afternoon when he was attacked by bees while searching for his ball in a wooded area of the golf course.

Michigan State Police said Dever suffered about 20 bee stings to the head and shoulder and died at the scene.

Barry Owens, general manager of Treetops Resort, made the following statement: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Darryl Dever during this very difficult time. This truly is a totally unexpected tragedy that has never happened here since the resort’s first course was built in 1987.”

The cause of death was most likely an allergy to bee venom, a circumstance that Dever was not aware of and that those who suffer from it are only aware of it when they are stung by these insects. In this case, the unfortunate circumstance of suffering multiple stings ended the golfer’s life in a fulminant way.
