9-year-old prodigy wins six of eight tournaments and is second in the others

Golf also enjoys its child prodigies from time to time. The latest to jump into the media spotlight is Corbin Null, a 9-year-old who was recently awarded the title of U.S. Junior Tour Player of the Year, which allowed him to return to theWorld Junior Championships for the third consecutive year at Pinehurst Resort.

The precocious golfer began playing the sport in his backyard when he was 2 years old, which is practically when he was able to stand up straight and stop crawling. Even at that age he already had a natural swing, says his father, Wes. “It was a swing that golfers like me would love to have, even at my age,” he says.

At the age of 6, Wes started taking his son to the driving range and, given his aptitude, he soon began to participate in competitions.

Last season on the United States Kids Tour, Cobin won six of the eight tournaments he played, finishing second in the other two. His record score made him the undisputed winner of the Player of the Year award.

“When he won his first tournament, we knew he had talent. What he can do is limitless,” says his mother, Dana.

Cobin says he enjoys golf because he gets to play with his friends and his father. “I would love to be a professional golfer,” he confesses.
