Harrison Ford crashes light aircraft on golf course

Actor Harrison Ford was seriously injured Thursday after the small plane he was flying crashed outside Los Angeles. The actor, 72, has several cuts on his head and has been taken to a nearby hospital, according to the website TMZ.

The two-seater plane had to make a crash landing on a golf course. Two doctors who were in the area rushed to the actor’s assistance, according to the media.

Patrick Butler of the Los Angeles Fire Department has indicated that the patient was “alert, conscious and breathing” at the time he was attended to by emergency crews.

The actor, who was the only person on board the aircraft, was rushed to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) hospital. “I arrived after Ford had already been transported, but I know that he suffered head injuries and that two doctors who were on the golf course were the first to assist him,” said Santa Monica City Commissioner Phil Brock.

Ford’s crash with the light aircraft occurred just moments after takeoff, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) told NBC.

This is not the first time Harrison Ford has suffered a similar mishap. A small plane he was piloting in the summer of 2000 also crashed in Lincoln (Nebraska), but the actor was not injured. He also had an incident in October 1999, while performing emergency maneuvers in a helicopter.
