How to hit straighter and more solid shots, with Tramores Golf Academy

David Gil is one of the PGA Golf Professionals of the “Tramores Golf Academy by Michael Campbell” at Villa Padierna Hotels & Resorts. He was 19 years old when he started working, in 1998, as a golf professional in Almenara (Sotogrande), creating the first CAR academy in Andalusia.

He later traveled to England where he worked at David Leadbetter’s Academy. Upon his return, he created the Sotogrande Golf School for Juniors, from which great professional players have emerged.

Always linked to teaching, in 2010 he became involved in an international project in Sicily, where he was closely involved with Italian national teams and coaches.

With a Master’s Degree in Golf Course Management, David has worked in Golf Operations. in the best fields of Andalusia, until 2018, when the opportunity arrives at Villa Padierna, where it brings to life the project “TGA Golf Academy by Michael Campbell”. A project full of life that is growing day by day and today is among the best Academies in Spain.

HOW TO HIT THE BALL STRAIGHTER AND MORE SOLIDLY

In this class we will discuss two of the most important factors in hitting the ball straighter and more solid: we will focus on correcting two of the most common bad shots.

SLICE : It is when the ball comes out to the left and ends up on the right due to the spin produced, losing a lot of distance.

The PULL: is when the ball goes straight to the left.

I would like to point out that both strokes have a lot in common. In fact, many players alternate both faults during their rounds of golf and both are much more accentuated as we use long clubs, since in the short clubs the degrees of the face minimize errors.

.

TIP NUMBER 1 TO CORRECT SLICE and PULL

Avoid placing the ball too far to the left side of the stance.

Many players in their stance tend to put the ball -especially with clubs like the DRIVER- right in front of their left foot without realizing that they are going to start their swing with their shoulders pointing all the way to the left of the target, causing the club to start to rise outward.

This error is easy to correct by simply seeking to place the ball in our stance in a more centered position.

.

TIP NUMBER 2 FOR CORRECTING THE SLICE and the PULL

The swing line

When we ask students what they think is the most important part of the golf swing, they always tell us that the IMPACT, but a good impact is useless if we do not move the club in the right direction. In our previous point we have said that you have to place the ball more centered so that the shoulders are aligned to the target, but above all it is for the club to move in the correct line.

In the SLICE and in the PULL, the club moves from the outside to the inside, we call this Swing line NEGATIVE and we have to work on making it POSITIVE (from the inside to the outside).

TIP NUMBER 3 TO CORRECT SLICE & PULL

The club face at impact and correction

This is the big difference between the Slice and the Pull:

THE POSITION OF THE CLUB FACE AT IMPACT

In the Slice: the club face points in a different direction to our swing line.

In the Pull: the club face points in the same direction as our swing line.

SLICE: Slice players block their hands at impact (so the club at impact is on target but their swing line is to the left).

Swing straight left, clubface to target: SLICE.

Faults to be corrected:

Change shoulder direction (more centered ball)

Move the stick more in a positive line

Actuate the hands before impact

PULL: PULL players (a high percentage) swing their hands well, but, like the SLICE player, the swing line is negative (the club at impact is pointing to the same place as their line).

Swing straight left, stick face left: PULL

Faults to be corrected:

Change shoulder direction (more centered ball)

Move the stick more in a positive line
