
The American J.B. Holmes has won the Shell Houston Open (USA) tournament in the playoff, after having signed the best card of the day, with 64 strokes, and climbed 17 positions to arrive, with a total of 272 strokes, equal with his compatriots Jordan Spieth and Johnson Wagner.
In the playoff, a par four played on the 18th hole, yesterday’s leader Jordan Spieth, who put in a discreet performance today (three birdies for one bogey), dropped out first by needing one stroke more (5) than his opponents.
On the same hole, the playoff continued with J.B. Holmes, who today made 9 birdies for one bogey, and Johnson Wagner, which finally ended with the victory of the former, who needed four strokes, one less than his opponent.
The Spaniard Sergio García had a bad performance, with 74 strokes, two over par, and a card full of mistakes (a double bogey and four bogeys) in which the Castellón native, however, scored an eagle (8) and two birdies, which placed him in 37th place, with 281 strokes.
Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño did not have his day either and needed one stroke over par to finish in 42nd place with a total of 282 strokes.
The tournament, which was played at the Houston Golf Club in Humble (Texas, USA), distributed 6,600,000 dollars in prize money, 1,188,000 for the winner, and 500 FedExCup points.
