Jiménez wins again in the American Champions Tour

Miguel Angel Jimenez has done it again. In his third participation in the Champions Tour, the U.S. senior circuit, he has scored his second victory, making it clear that he is a competitive golfer in any terrain. He won in his first appearance, was eighth in his second and now he has won the Mitsubishi Electric Championship.

The Andalusian was leading the tournament along with the American Rocco Mediate, both with -11, with 18 holes to go. After a first round of 69 strokes on the first day, Jimenez shot a second round of 64 that took him to the co-lead in the Hualalai Golf Club course.
And in the last round, the great Jiménez emerged, the one who always performs at the limit in the most important moments. He scored six birdies on the second nine holes to make useless the efforts of a legend like Mark O’Meara. -17 for the Spaniard to -16 for the American. And for -14 of Fred Couples.
After winning the Greater Gwinnett Championship on his Champions Tour debut in April 2014, the Malaga-born golfer has once again added another point to his popularity on the other side of the pond, where he is known as “the most interesting golfer in the world”.
Jiménez: “I dedicate the triumph to my mother”.
Miguel Angel Jimenez admitted that it has been “a very special victory, hard work and fighting until the last shot. I want to dedicate it to my mother who passed away last Sunday. I am very moved,” he said.
“I started calmly and hitting the ball well, with birdies on holes three and four, but the double bogey on hole five slowed down my rhythm completely. On the sixth I went to the bunker and saved the par leaving it given; then, pars and more pars.
Although it seemed like the birdie was never going to come, I stayed calm and focused at all times. On the tenth tee I told my caddie: “I have to make a few birdies to catch Mark O’Meara, and it was done! The putt on 17 was very important.
Looking at the results board I felt very proud: O’Meara, Fred Couples and Rocco Mediate, three major winners who have not made it easy for me. Now, I’m going to rest for a few days, which I need, I’m broken; then I’ll return to play the European Tour: Malaysia, Thailand and India, and then the WGC Cadillac in Miami”, he pointed out.
