Koepka has already won more majors than ‘normal’ tournaments on the American Tour.

If Jack Nicklaus maintains that this has been one of the best years of the majors, there is no doubt that it has been so. Especially for Brooks Koepka, who has won his second consecutive major -after the US Open, which he also won last year- by winning the US PGA in a superb finish that left a splendid Tiger Woods in the ditch. The former world number one finally finished second in Bellerive, two strokes behind the champion, and Adam Scott was third. Jon Rahm finished in fourth position tied with Stewart Cink.

Koepka, who confessed some time ago that he found golf a boring sport and that what really excited him was baseball, is such an amazing player that he has won more majors than ‘normal’ tournaments on the U.S. Tour. In total, five.

Returning to Nicklaus, the Golden Bear heaped praise in several tweets on the US PGA winner. “For Brooks to miss the Masters due to injury, be unsure of his future in golf, then come back and win the US Open and US PGA Championship, two of the three majors left in the year, you have to believe it’s one of the best years any golfer has ever had!”.

Nicklaus also praised Woods, stating that he should be chosen for the U.S. Ryder Cup team, which next month will defend the title and attempt to win on European soil for the first time in 25 years. But the winner in 18 majors reserved the highest praise for Koepka, the 28-year-old who has climbed to No. 2 in the world rankings despite winning only five major titles, including his three majors.

“Calm, serene, confident,” Nicklaus posted. “That’s the description of Brooks Koepka. He didn’t seem to be aware of anything other than the golf course. That’s what you have to do in a major.”
