If we talk about the Costa Dorada we talk about beach, summer, relax but very few will tell us the word golf, and at the moment the Costa Dorada is not known as a golf destination but as a beach and leisure destination designed for a rather seasonal tourism. However, the Costa Dorada has a strong infrastructure unique in our coast to be considered as a golf destination. The province of Tarragona has neither more nor less than 6 golf courses. The newest, those of Lumine Golf Club, designed to enjoy both beginners and high competition level. The Costa Dorada also offers a wide range of cultural, gastronomic, wine and relaxation very attractive to tourists, something that new emerging destinations or consolidated destinations do not offer. Let’s remember that Tarragona is a province with a mild climate, with a beach and a cultural level with monuments that are part of the World Heritage as the very important Roman ruins, very interesting wineries with Designation of Origin, gastrobars, restaurants with Michelin stars, and a unique amusement park in Europe as is Port Aventura, ingredients are not lacking to be a city and winter destination.
A PROVINCE WITH A LOT TO OFFER
Culture: Tarragona has Roman ruins of incalculable value and if we go a little deeper into the province offers the Cistercian route, the route of Modernism, etc. …
Gastronomy: the province has a very wide offer. For example, Cambrils has two Michelin-starred restaurants, and in the case of Lumine Restaurant has twice received awards for best restaurant in the province.
Wellness: The leisure-relax offer is increasingly emerging with spas, urban thermal baths and SPA hotels.
Infrastructure: Reus airport is 10 minutes away from the golf courses and Barcelona airport is only 1 hour away. On the other hand, the Tarragona AVE high speed train station is only a few minutes away making access from Madrid and Zaragoza much easier.
Roads and highways: Lumine Golf courses are very well connected thanks to the network of highways and roads in the area.
Hotel offer: the Costa Dorada area is known for its wide range of high quality hotels, comfort and service.
After reading this, one realizes that the Gold Coast is the great unknown in this regard.
Lumine Golf, the big bet for the Gold Coast
It is an open secret, all the efforts that are being made from the Costa Dorada will bear fruit this 2012, and Lumine as its name suggests will give light to the whole area with its desire to offer and publicize its great infrastructure for a more winter tourism.
In this case, the Costa Dorada along with Lumine Golf attended IGTM International Golf Travel Market Turkey where contact was made with numerous tour operators. To be exact only in 2011, Lumine Golf signed 62 contracts with various tour operators to cover the Swedish, English and German market, a very attractive tourism for the area and prone to travel to warmer countries and winter as ours. It also has an agreement with 36 hotels in the area to provide tourists with all kinds of necessary services such as accommodation and transfers.
Lumine Golf in this case wants to focus on the Nordic tourist for its long-stay profile: it is a profile of an average of 55 years old traveling as a couple, usually married couples of a medium-high economic, cultural and social status who want to spend the cold season in more pleasant climates like ours.
They usually rent an apartment, play golf, enjoy the gastronomic offer of the area and the good winter weather. In Sweden it is a booming market and in other countries it is starting up strongly. Attracting this tourist to the Costa Dorada represents a very important seasonal tourism with a very attractive tourist profile and high quality.
NATIONAL AND REGIONAL TOURISM
Lumine Golf attended in 2011 the two most important national golf fairs, the first in Barcelona and the second in Madrid. In both cases the proposal was to present the offer of Lumine Golf to the more than 30,000 federated golfers in Barcelona and more than 110,000 in Madrid.
The reader will wonder how many golfers there are in Tarragona, right, because, paradoxically, with the golf offer there are only 1,800 federated golfers. That is why we have to promote a different concept of tourism.
To encourage domestic golf traffic, Lumine has signed an agreement with 55 courses, which will facilitate golf traffic between them.
Lumine is also investing efforts in promoting the sporting culture of golf in the area for residents. To this end, it has launched various proposals and signed agreements with different entities. The aim is for people to get to know a sport that until now has been considered elitist.
For example, we highlight the following actions:
– The inhabitants of Vilaseca have reduced rates.
– Families can play with their children without having to pay for them.
– In a market where 70% is male, Lumine launches a golf course for women.
– Golf school: for those who wish to begin, there are golf baptisms and beginners’ courses at very affordable prices.
– Children’s school: to promote golf among children, Lumine has a golf school that offers courses for children from 6 to 16 years old.
– Lumine offers very attractive golf+football+gastronomy packages in 2012, which will allow clients to play golf, enjoy gastronomy and attend the most important and exciting matches at Camp Nou in Barcelona without having to worry about transportation to Barcelona.
