Lydia Ko, the fastest to earn $8 million on the LPGA Tour

She was left with the thorn of having narrowly missed out on the Indy Women in Tech Championship, where she finished second (American Lexi Thompson won), but in return Lydia Ko had the compensation of having broken a record on the American Women’s Tour (the LPGA Tour): being the player who has most quickly surpassed the eight million dollar barrier in prize money.

And she has done so in her 93rd professional tournament, in which she pocketed a check of $186,096 dollars for her second place, totaling earnings of $8,021,004 dollars in her LPGA Tour career. The previous record was held by Taiwan’s Yani Tseng, who crossed the eight million dollar mark in her 98th tournament.

The next challenge for the New Zealander Ko, former world number one, is the nine million and for that she still has a long way to go, since the one who reached those earnings the fastest, Lorena Ochoa, achieved it in her participation number 119. Thus, Lydia has 25 tournaments to pocket a million dollars and thus beat the record of “monetary speed” of the Mexican retired for years and who also became world number one.
