That’s the thing about the complex world ranking scoring system (based on a two-year ‘rolling’ period), that even if none of the contenders fighting for the number one ranking play, there is movement at the top.
If last week, Rory McIlroy snatched the world throne from Jordan Spieth, this Monday, without either of them having competed, it is the Northern Irishman who has moved ahead of the American. However, they are separated by little more than two hundredths of a point. Thus, while Rory has 11.9826 points, Jordan has 11.9596.
The third place is currently occupied by the Australian Jason Day, who with his recent victories in the US GP and The Barclays, has climbed like an arrow in the world ranking and accumulated a total of 10,9435 points.
Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler, Henrik Stenson, Jim Furyk, Justin Rose and Dustin Johnson occupy the next places respectively, closing the top 10 with Sergio Garcia, who remains tenth for another week, with a score of 5.3657.
Miguel Ángel Jiménez is the next Spaniard in the world ranking, in 63rd position, with 2,1802 points.
